Topic: Hey, Ms./Mr. HR Professional, What Do I Do?

What do you do when you’re asked an HR question and there is no rule? What do you do? Whose responsibility is it? That’s the role of policies and procedures. Without it neither you nor your employees understand their responsibilities or their limitations. This presentation will discuss how policies and procedures are the strategic link between your Council vision and its day to day operations. We will examine policy development, format, roles and responsibilities. You will leave with good ideas and a sampling of policies that you can apply right away.

Speaker: Charlene Ramkissoon

Topic: Why is my pay lower than his, we do the same job!!

Have you heard that employee lament before? When this question is raised, it is an immediate red flag that salary inequity is haunting your workplace. And if you looked hard enough, you will realize that you don’t have a system for placing people into the right salary band. Sometimes the decision is “by gosh or by golly”. This workshop will talk about an effective strategy called Job evaluation that can help you get things back on track and ensure that when you hire someone, they are paid fairly and within the right salary range.

SESSION 4
Room:
Ambassador I
Speaker: Richard Lannon

Topic: Leaders: Making Better Decisions

How do you approach a problem, understand the criteria for looking at that problem and then make a decision as to what is the appropriate thing to do? Therein lies the difference between leadership, management and professional engagement. Having an approach to making decisions around solution options and what the best path is at a certain point in time is critical in good leadership. No matter what level you are at in your organization, having tools that can be used to assist in decision making is key to success. This workshop takes an interactive planning and solution approach for a simple simulation that applies specific tools to help develop approaches, understand the challenges and create ways to make decisions that can be presented to key stakeholders for discussion or approval.
